Werewolves of New Idria Poster Completed
filed in Book Illustrator and Book Illustrations, Graphic Novels on Oct.29, 2010
Here’s the promo poster for the graphic novel Werewolves of New Idria.
Everyone seems to like it and it’s possible that it may become the actual cover for the graphic novel. If so, it will be about the eighth cover created for the title.
On the plus side, each stab at the cover illustration seems to get better, so it doesn’t seem like time wasted. I think this will pretty much complete my work on this graphic novel as well. It was my first graphic novel and a whole lot of work.
And a whole lot of fun.

Those eyes are brilliant and mesmerising, Duncan. And the predominantly red colour scheme is arresting. Can you tell me why red is such an attractive colour on posters and books covers?

I suspect it may be like why farmers paint their barns red. All sorts of theories but no one knows (ha).
Seriously, (and as one theory about red barns) it may be that the environment is so “red poor” that our mind enjoys the bright and intense contrast offered by a splotch of red.
In the West at least, red also commands, “Stop!” Perhaps there’s a subconscious need to pause and examine the “danger” presented by a red poster as well.
But I doubt it.
