You see strange things in the murky depths when you go fishing late in the day. A wise fisherman knows not to talk about them, except perhaps to those who fish as he does.
This is the “One That Got Away,” that mermaid sighted for just a moment, that lady of the lake who becomes the ultimate fish story.
And, yes, all rights to this illustration (including book and magazine) are currently available.

More of a selkie than a mermaid, is what her hair suggests. The face is perfect, and the greenish tinge to the skin great. Try her looking towards the surface with a few bubbles issuing from her lips, surrounded by fish one would be likely to find in Scottish waters. Och aye!

She is a mermaid… but not just a normal, happy, Ariel-type mermaid. She’s an undead mermaid. C
Cursed by a sailor (who happened to be a warlock) to swim the depths for all eternity… feeding on the blood of the fish and unlucky sailors who fall into her ocean.
She’ll survive like this, but the only way she can break the spell and become a normal mermaid again is to find the warlock sailor who cursed her.
But how will she do it as a mermaid? Easy. She just needs to defeat the evil witch who lurks in the great chasm and steal the orb of deception, which will allow her to travel land as a human for a couple hours a day.
Only problem is, the great chasm is a deep cave for which none have ever returned. She will need help… but who will help her?
There. We have a story for it.
